Amazon Green

After what seemed like months of samples and trips to paint stores we decided on a color for our new front door.  The door was installed in January but we needed to wait for warmer weather to paint.  It took me so long to pick a color and find time to paint it that I almost missed my chance. We decided on a Benjamin Moore Color called Amazon Green but I think it looks more teal.

Brass-tastic

For Christmas this year my parents bought us a new front door to replace the original wooden door.  The door looked more like a back door/barn door than a front door and was not very well sealed.

We decided to have someone come and install the door for us since having a gaping hole in the front of the house is not something we wanted to risk if something went wrong or we didn't have the right tools/materials. 

We love how the new door looks and it isn't even painted yet.   We'll wait until warmer weather in the spring when we can have to door open to paint it.  

It's a fiberglass door from Therma-Tru.  Fiberglass seems to be the most widely available and recommended material over wood and steel and we are very pleased with our new door.

Andy decided to splurge and go with an oil-rubbed bronze knob and handle from Baldwin brass.

We love the new hardware too and now all of the knobs and fixtures in the foyer match!

Ding Dong the Witch is Dead

With the drywall patched in the downstairs hall Andy wanted to get the new doorbell installed before we painted.

 

The new button matches the hardware on the new front door (I'll post about that soon) in oil-rubbed bronze.

The wiring was a little tricky because Andy primed over all of the notes he wrote on the wall.  It's nice to have a regular doorbell.

Hall Light

Earlier this summer I scored a bunch of new light fixtures during a tent sale.  And by score I mean bought six new light fixtures for different areas of the house for about 10% of the list price.  On average each light cost me around $10 dollars. I really had no idea what to expect from the sale and I wasn't prepared for what I found -- there were piles of name brand boxed lights everywhere and they weren't necessary in the correct box so I had to open EVERYTHING -- but it was worth it. We've been slow to get them all up, but we did manage to update the hall light just inside the front door.

The old brass fixture was in perfect working order but it just wasn't our style so it was donated to Goodwill.

AFTER.  A new oil rubbed bronze fixture. There are a ton of other things that need updating in this picture -- front door, some paint to get rid of the "contractor cream" and flooring, but the light is a nice change.
